Stolen Fly Fishing Rods

Sault Ste Marie OPP is investigating a Break and Enter that occurred Wednesday afternoon around 5:41 p.m. at a Church St residence in Echo Bay. Two males approximately 5’ 10” tall wearing dark hoodies were seen leaving a residence on Church Street. Taken from the residence were two fly fishing rods valued in excess of $2000.00. The suspects were last seen carrying the Rods, one of which was in a black plastic tube and the second in custom tubular case. The Sault Ste Marie City Police Canine unit was dispatched but the track was lost on Church Street. The OPP are asking anyone who may have been out in the Church St area around 5:30 and seen someone carrying these tubes to call the OPP at 1 –888-310-1122 or Crime stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Sault Ste Marie OPP has investigated 42 Break and enters so far in this year. Many of these crimes occur in rural areas and involve recreational properties. These crimes are quite often committed by a small number of people who rely on the vulnerability of remote or rural residences. Your police need the help of the people who live in or have recreational properties, to promptly report any suspicious activity. This activity can be something as simple as seeing a vehicle that is unfamiliar to your area. Your police need this type of information to develop possible suspects. You need not identify yourself to pass on information. Good citizens do not mind being asked why they may have been in an area where some recent break and enters have occurred. Criminals are afraid of your eyes and if they know active community watch activity is occurring they may be less inclined to target your properties. Vigilant neighbors are the first line of defense against property crime.
