BEAR SIGHTING IN FENWICK TOWNSHIP NEAR SCHOOL YARD

(Fenwick Twp., Ont.) OPP were called to Mountainview Public School yesterday morning around 8: 45 a.m. when a bear was spotted behind the fence area surrounding the back of the school yard.

All children were brought into the school.

OPP patrolled the area for several hours after but the bear was not located.

Garbage is the main reason why bears are drawn into communities. Bird and pet food, greasy barbecues and ripe or decaying fruit, berries and vegetables are other invitations to bears to forage for food in populated areas.

This is not good for you, your neighbors, or for the bears. It takes everyone working together and practicing Bear Wise habits to keep bears away.

To report a bear problem call 1-866-514 2327 (1-866-514-BEAR) or your local OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
