WINTER DRIVING

(WAWA, ON) Winter driving conditions are upon us and the Superior East OPP detachments would like the motoring public to avoid the risky behaviour of aggressive driving. This means slowing down, giving yourself more time to arrive at your destination and maintaining distance between vehicles. Excess speed reduces the amount of available time it takes to avoid a collision, increases the likelihood of a collision and increases the severity of the collision.

Before heading out motorists can check for road conditions by calling the MTO at 1-800-268-4686. The OPP would like to remind the public that the emergency numbers are for emergencies only and are not for checking the road and/or weather conditions.

To ensure you are ready for this weather be sure to pack a few extra items in your vehicle prior to heading out. This can include a flashlight, first aid kit, blankets, shovel booster cables, tools and candles with matches. Be sure to carry snacks and bottled water and always fill your fuel tank. An extra set of gloves, socks and a winter hat is recommended as well.

The OPP wants to ensure everyone arrives at their destination safe and sound. Extra caution while driving in winter weather goes a long way to preventing collisions.
