SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION SENDS ONE TO HOSPITAL
Batchawana, Ont.

At 6:45 a.m. yesterday, Sault Ste. Marie O.P.P. received a call about a truck in the ditch on Highway 563 in the Village of Batchawana. The driver, 53-year-old Gaetan Gagne of Batchawana, was trapped in the truck and was injured.

The Batchawana Fire and Rescue freed the man and he was sent to the Sault Area Hospital suffering from hypothermia and other injuries. He was later transferred to St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe that he was trapped in the truck for quite some time. The investigation has indicated, so far, that the truck went into the ditch, rolled end over end, struck a telephone pole, rolled sideways, and then came to rest against an abandoned building.

Sault O.P.P. are continuing the investigation and believe that alcohol may have played a part in the accident although it will be several weeks before test results are returned from the Centre of Forensic
