FESTIVE R.I.D.E. 2012 IS UNDERWAY

(Elliot Lake, Blind River, Thessalon) – The East Algoma OPP is currently conducting their annual Festive R.I.D.E. (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign.  The campaign started November 24, 2012 and will continue until January 2, 2013.

Year after year, the Festive R.I.D.E. program proves effective in taking impaired drivers off our roads. Impaired driving is a public safety problem year-round but sadly the possibility of someone drinking and driving worsens during the holidays.

Alcohol-related fatalities are slightly up this year in OPP jurisdictions. Collective enforcement and educational efforts surrounding impaired driving will undoubtedly make our roadways safe in the weeks to come.

“Impaired driving continues to be the leading cause of criminal death in Canada” shares Inspector Percy Jollymore. “One alcohol-related death is one to many and motorists need to be more proactive in eliminating these preventable fatalities altogether.”
