Transport driver charged with impaired driving

BLIND RIVER - On June 12, 2017 shortly before 8 p.m., members from the East Algoma Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint involving a westbound tractor trailer on Highway 17, east of Blind River.

Police later located the tractor trailer on Highway 17 entering Blind River and initiate a traffic stop. When speaking to the driver, officers determined the driver had been consuming alcohol. An open bottle of liquor was also located in the vehicle and was readily available to the driver.

The driver, Victor Jimbouev, 56 of Richmond Hill, Ont. was arrested and charged with ‎the following offences:

  • Driving while ability impaired-motor vehicle (drug), contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1(b) of the CC;
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA); and with
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the LLA.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Blind River on July 13, 2017.

The OPP is continuing their investigation into this incident and is requesting anyone who may have encountered this vehicle to please contact the East Algoma OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
