TRAFFIC STOP FINDS IMPAIRED DRIVER

Echo Bay, Ont.,

An early morning traffic stop in Echo Bay has found another person drinking and driving.

On Sunday April 8, 2007 at about 1:00 a.m. an officer with Sault Ste Marie OPP stopped a vehicle in Echo Bay for a traffic violation. The driver showed signs that he was drinking. He was given a roadside breath test and then returned to the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment for further testing.

As a result of these tests it was found that the driver well over the legal limit to be driving. Twenty year old (20) Gary James REED of Elizabeth Street in Echo Bay has been charged with one count of Driving While over the Legal Limit Contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

Mr. Reed will appear in court on May 8 2007 to answer to his charge.

JUST A LITTLE OBVIOUS

Sault Ste Marie, Ont.,

A Sault Ste Marie man was given some hefty fines for driving way too fast over the weekend.

On Sunday morning at about 12:30 a.m. an officer with the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit was traveling on Hwy 17 near the city limits. The officer clocked a vehicle traveling in excess of 40 kilometers over the speed limit.

The vehicle was pulled over and the driver had a G2 driver’s licence. The driver was given a breath test and found to be under the legal limit but over the allowable level for a G2 driver’s licence.

Twenty one (21) year old Michael DIGASPARO of Lennox Ave in Sault Ste Marie was given tickets worth $412.00 for the two offences.

EASTER WEEKEND TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT

Sault Ste Marie, Ont.,

Officers with the Sault Ste Marie detachment continue to focus efforts on the OPP’s renewal of traffic enforcement and traffic safety.

Between the calls for service and some unseasonable weather, officers issued ninety one (91) tickets over the Easter Long weekend. Speeding and seat belt violations lead the list of infractions that officers found.

OPP officers will continue to conduct an aggressive traffic enforcement campaign throughout our detachment area. Officers are conducting spot checks on daily basis looking for people who do not buckle up and those who continue to drink and drive.
