MULTIPLE CHARGES LAID AFTER OPP STOP ERRATIC DRIVER

(Blind River, ON.) – On March 28, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. East Algoma OPP in Thessalon received a complaint of an eastbound pick up truck with Alberta licence plates being driven erratically in the Thessalon area.  Police located and stopped the vehicle just east of Thessalon.  While conducting their investigation the driver returned to his vehicle and sped away.  Police pursued the vehicle a short distance along highway 17 with emergency lights and sirens activated until concern for public safety warranted police to disengage.  At 8:43 p.m. officers from the East Algoma OPP in Blind River located the suspect vehicle again on highway 17 just west of Blind River. Police attempted to stop the suspect vehicle but it again fled.  Officers were able to successfully get the vehicle to stop east of Blind River.  The driver and passenger were arrested without incident. The driver of the vehicle, 46 year old Shawn WALKER from Calgary Alberta is charged with the following offences:

1) Breach of Probation, Criminal Code (2 counts)
2) Impaired Operation, Criminal Code
3) Exceeding 80 milligrams of alcohol, Criminal Code
4) Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, Criminal Code
5) Flight from police, Criminal Code
6) Obstruct peace office, Criminal Code
7) Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, Criminal Code (2 counts)
8) Personation with intent, Criminal Code
9) Theft under $5000, Criminal Code
10) Drive motor vehicle with open liquor, Liquor Licence Act
11) Driving under suspension, Highway Traffic Act

The passenger, 29 year Stephanie FAVEL from Alberta is charged with the following offences:

1) Obstruct peace officer, Criminal Code (2 counts)
2) Disobey court order, Criminal Code
3) Possession of property obtained by crime, Criminal Code (2 counts)
4) Theft under $5000, Criminal Code
5) Breach probation, Criminal Code

Both WALKER and FAVEL were held in custody for a bail hearing in Sault Ste. Marie.

SIMPLE REQUEST TO LEAVE NETS SEVERAL CHARGES

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Saturday, March 30th, 2013 at approximately 1:28 a.m. police were called to attend Mountain Road in Elliot Lake regarding patrons being evicted from a local drinking establishment.

Police attended the area and spoke with males located in the parking lot.  One of the males allegedly started yelling at the officers and became uncooperative.  After several attempts to speak to the suspect, police arrested the suspect.

Charged with the following is Botuli Nsama Mpenbe ILANGA (28) of Ottawa, Ontario.

  •           Assault Police (X2)
  •           Obstruct/Resist Police

The accused is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on June 4, 2013.

LAPRAIRIE RESIDENCE VICTIM OF BREAK AND ENTER

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) –   Police are currently investigating a Break Enter and Theft at a residence on Laprairie Crescent in Elliot Lake.

Sometime between 4:00 p.m. on March 27th, 2013 and 1:09 p.m. on March 29th, 2013 unknown person(s) entered the residence by kicking a side door.  Once inside the suspect(s) searched the residence.

At this time it is unknown what was taken.

Police remind everyone to report any suspicious activities in your neighbourhood.

MISSISSAUGA RESIDENCE VICTIM OF BREAK ENTER AND THEFT

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) –   Sometime between 4:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. on March 30, 2013 unknown person(s) entered a residence on Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake while the residents were away.

The suspect searched the house and the only item noted to be missing was a lap top computer.

OVER $6,000.00 TAKEN DURING BREAK ENTER AND THEFT

(Elliot Lake, Ontario)  The OPP is currently investigating a second break enter and theft at another residence on Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake.

The owner of the residence reports that on March 31st, 2013 between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. he left the residence and upon his return noted the side door had been forced open.

While in the residence the suspect(s) took a safe, jewellery and an undisclosed amount of money. Approximate value of items taken is over $6,000.00.

Items stolen are watches, rings, earrings, gold chains and cash.

OPP lay charges after break and enter at Massey Arena

(ESPANOLA,ON) - The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have laid a number of charges after a break and enter at the Massey Arena on March 31, 2013. 

Members of the Espanola detachment responded to the break and enter at around 10:30 a.m. to learn that beer and liquor had been stolen from the upstairs hall of the arena.

Officers had siezed liquor from a vehicle involved in a motor vehicle collision earlier in the morning and found that it was the same type taken from the arena. 

A 20-year-old male was later located and arrested with the assistance of the Sagamok Anishnabek Police Service.

Further investigation revelaed that the male was alleged to have stolen two wallets and other items from unlocked cars in Espanola the night before.

These were also found in the vehicle involved in the collision.

Trent Southwind (21 yrs) of Sagamok, ON has been charged with:

  • Break and Enter
  • Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000 (2 Counts)
  • Theft Under $5000
  • Mischief Under $5000 
  • Drive-No Licence

The accused will appear in Espanola court on May 7, 2013
