COLLISION RESULTS IN IMPAIRED OPERATION CHARGE
(Garden River First Nation, ON) – On Thursday, 21 April 2011 at 6:50 am OPP were called to a single motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 17B and Moccasin St., Garden River First Nations.

A green Pontiac Grand AM was located in the northbound ditch of Moccasin St. facing the wrong lane of travel and a stop sign had been struck.

A female was observed in the driver’s seat and as officer’s approached the vehicle a strong odour of alcohol was detected on the female’s breath and her speech was slurred. The driver was unsteady on her feet upon exiting the vehicle.

As a result of further investigation, 23 year old Amber Irene Jones of Mizigan St., Garden River First Nation was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Drive with over 80 milligrams of alcohol.

The accused was further charged for Class G1 Driver’s Licence holder having a B.A.C. (Blood Alcohol Concentration) over 0.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear for Court on 30 May 2011.


VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF CONTRABAND CIGARETTES
(Havilland Twp., ON) - At approximately 3:50 am on Sunday, 24 April 2011 a 2007 Escalade was stopped by an OPP Officer for speeding on Highway 17 heading northbound.

Upon speaking with the driver, several large cardboard boxes were observed in the back of the vehicle with the markings indicating that the enclosed were cigarettes.

The driver indicated that he was transporting them to Thunder Bay but could not tell the officer the name or where the destination was, and was unable to produce documentation for the cigarettes in his possession.

Upon further investigation, 450 contraband cartons of GK cigarettes and 50 packages (200 per pack) of Gold Leaf Tobacco were seized. The items were not marked with proper seals indicating tax revenue paid.

The street profit value of the cigarettes was in excess of fourteen thousand dollars.

Forty-seven year old Andrew John McCully of Brantwood Park Road, Brantford, Ontario was charged with Illegal Possession of Unmarked Cigarettes, contrary to the Tobacco Tax Act of Ontario.

The accused is to appear in court on 22 June 2011.
