A Crash on Hwy#17 that resulted in no major injuries could easily have been a tragedy. Sault Ste Marie OPP are investigating a single motor vehicle crash that occurred on Hwy# 17 near Havaland, Monday August 25th. around 11:00 a.m. A dodge spirit with 4 adults and a six month infant was traveling southbound on highway #17 when the car left the roadway after passing a tractor trailer. The vehicle flipped several times coming to rest on its wheel in a creek. All the parties in the crash were taken to hospital and released after examination. The crash is still under investigation. The use of seat belts is credited with saving lives in this crash.

Two Sault Ste Marie Residents Charged with Racing

Shortly after 11:00 p.m. Sault Ste Marie Highway Safety Division Traffic and Marine officers stopped a Dakota pickup and Ford mustang on Hwy#17 Between Bar River Road and Watson Rd in MacDonald Twp. The vehicles were driving in excess of 60 km/h over the posted 90 km/h speed limit. Charged with Racing are James Bussineau age 31 of 93 Summit Ave Sault Ste Marie and John Szczepanik age 36 of 402 Laurier Ave Sault Ste Marie. Both men had their driving licenses suspended for 7 days and their vehicles impounded for 7 days. Potential penalties for this offences can be fines in the thousands of dollars as well as license suspensions.
