(Sault Ste Marie, ON ) Sault Ste Marie Detachment and Highway Safety Division Officers maintained a high profile this past long weekend on the local highways and waterways. As a result of a strict enforcement stance a Total of 147 charges were laid. These charges included 107 speeding, 8 Seatbelt, 3 charges for failure to drive in marked lane, 7 liquor charges most in relation to open liquor in vessels, 9 documents and 5 failure to produce evidence of insurance charges. In addition 4 marine related charges for failure to have a marine operator’s card and 2 ATV related charges were laid. Police investigated 4 property damage and one personal injury motor vehicle Crashes.

Drinking and Driving / Vessel Operation
(Havilland Twp. ON) On the 1st of August at approximately 1:22 a.m. a vehicle was stopped on Hwy # 17 in Havilland twp for speeding. The driver of this vehicle had been drinking and failed a roadside test. Charge with operating a motor vehicle with more than the legal limit of alcohol and speeding is Larry SANDUIK age 44 of 190 Lake St Sault Ste Marie.

(Ranger Lake, ON) On 2nd of August at 1:48 p.m. an OPP marine officer checked a vehicle about to remove a vessel off of Ranger Lake and found the driver to have been drinking. This person was issued a 3 day suspension. The operator of the vessel that was about to be put on the trailer also had been drinking and was also issued a 3 day licence suspension.

(Havilland Twp. ON) At 7:44 p.m. on the 2nd of August a Sault Ste Marie Detachment OPP officer stopped to assist a motorist who was stopped on the shoulder of Hwy#17 in Havilland Twp. The officer detected a strong odour of Cannabis coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of approximately 1816 gm’s (4 lbs) of Marihuana Buds. Also seized were several marihuana buts. Charged with Possession for the purpose of trafficking and Possession under the Controlled Drugs and Substance act are Paul Anthony BLAIS age 39 and Laura Lee Dawan PALMER age 30 of 4905 5th St W Claresholm Alberta. Blais is also charged with Breach of Probation. Both suspects will appear in Sault Ste Marie Bail Court Tuesday Morning.
