FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISON (WAWA, ON.) – Superior East OPP (Wawa) is currently investigating a motor vehicle collision that occurred approximately 15 kms south of Wawa on Highway 17.

(WAWA, ON.) – Superior East OPP (Wawa) is currently investigating a motor vehicle collision that occurred approximately 15 kms south of Wawa on Highway 17.

The Technical Traffic Collision Investigation unit has been called to the scene. The collision involved a transport truck and car.

It was reported at approximately 7:18 am and involves one confirmed fatality. Two injured parties have been transported to the Lady Dunn Health Centre in Wawa. No names are being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Highway 17 between Wawa and Sault Ste Marie remains closed at this time.

OPP requests that the public listen to the local media for updates regarding the reopening of Highway 17.


SHOPLIFTING IS A CRIME

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Monday, August 29, 2011 at approximately 7:50 p.m. police received a call regarding a possible theft at a local drug store on Ontario Avenue in Elliot Lake.

Investigation, revealed that a male had attended the cosmetic counter and while in the area allegedly removed a bottle of perfume. The male then left the store without paying for the item.

Charged with Theft Under is Colin MARION (22) of Elliot Lake. The accused is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court October 4, 2011.

IMPAIRED DRIVER CHARGED

(HORNEPAYNE, ON.) – On Monday August 29, 2011 Superior East OPP in Hornepayne stopped a 2003 Chevrolet Venture van being driven by a male on First St. in Hornepayne. As a result of police investigation the driver, James RUSSELL age 67 of Hornepayne was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with;
(1) Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle;
(2) Exceed 80 Milligrams Blood/Alcohol content.

He will appear in Hornepayne Criminal Court on November 3, 2011 to answer to the charges.

BREAK AND ENTER IN CHAPLEAU

(CHAPLEAU, ON.) – On Tuesday August 30, 2011 Superior East OPP in Chapleau received a report of a break and enter at a residence on Elgin St. Owners of the home returned to find their residence had been entered through a back door. The master bedroom had been ransacked and the items taken exceeded $5,000 in value.

Scenes of Crime Officers were called to assist and police investigation is continuing. The OPP is asking for the public’s assistance in solving this crime. A
