MILITARY HELICOPTER LANDS NORTH OF CITY DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER

(Aweres Twp., ON) – Anyone driving past the Ministry of Transportation weigh scales on Highway 17 in Aweres Township might be wondering why a Canadian military helicopter is resting in the parking lot.

Yesterday at around 5:30 p.m. O.P.P. were called to advise that a Military Chopper with a crew of 3 personnel en route from Halifax were forced to land at the weigh scales due to the inclement weather.

The exterior lighting to the building was activated and the Helicopter and crew members landed without incident.

The helicopter is set to resume its flight schedule this morning.

The Ontario Provincial Police advise the public of the following road closure.

Location: Hwy 17 from Batchewana to Wawa

Detachment area: Sault Ste Marie

Time of road closure: 05:00 hrs

Reason for the closure: Weather related

Detour: None

Estimated duration of closure: unknown

Time road reopened: 15DEC08 at 6:15pm – open to traffic in all directions.
