SMOKE DETECTOR WAKENS FIRE VICTIM
Heyden, Ont.

A properly working smoke detector awoke an occupant of a Heyden home last night just prior to her house burning.

At about 10:30 last night, the Aweres Township Fire and Rescue were called to a house fire at the Fisher Trailer Park on Trout Lake Road. The investigation indicates that a female occupant of the home had fallen asleep on the couch while smoking. She awoke to the sound of the smoke alarm.

The home was completely gutted by fire and all the contents were destroyed in the blaze.

The occupant, 32-year-old Tanya Pearce was not injured. The properly working smoke detector is credited with allowing her to escape the fire without injuries.

There was no insurance on the building or contents.
