FATAL FIRE ON CHRISTMAS EVE (Elliot Lake, Ontario) – On Friday, December 24th, 2010 at approximately 8:00 a.m. the East Algoma OPP responded to a residential fire on Westhill Road in Elliot Lake.

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – On Friday, December 24th, 2010 at approximately 8:00 a.m. the East Algoma OPP responded to a residential fire on Westhill Road in Elliot Lake.

Upon arrival the residence was engulfed in flames and members of the Elliot Lake Fire Department were on scene battling the blaze.

Investigation revealed at approximately 6:40 a.m. a neighbour noted smoke coming from the trailer. He attended the residence and knocked on the door but received no answer. He then proceeded to his residence and called the Fire Department.

The fire department faced an aggressive fire and with the assistance of the thermal camera a body was discovered.

The identity of the victim has not been confirmed pending an autopsy scheduled in Sudbury on December 29, 2010.

The fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshall Office.
