(Sudbury, ON)-Sudbury OPP advise that the ramp on Highway 17 is now open.

SERIOUS MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION – Road Open

(Sudbury, ON) - On February 17, 2009 at 2:00 a.m., officers from the Sudbury OPP Detachment responded to a single vehicle roll-over collision on the Highway 17 ramp leading to Highway 69 South, City of Greater Sudbury.

At this time, preliminary investigation reveals the vehicle was heading down the ramp towards Highway 69 when it hit and went over the guide rails landing onto Goodview Road.

The Sudbury Fire Department attended the scene to extricate the victim. The male driver (lone occupant) from Manitoulin Island was taken to St. Joseph’s Health Centre by ambulance with life threatening injuries.

The ramp onto Highway 69 from Highway 17 West is presently closed and is expected to be closed for most of the day while officers conduct on-scene investigation with the assistance of O.P.P. Technical Traffic Collision Investigators. Motorists who are coming from the West are required to detour through the City (Long Lake Rd to Regent St.) in order to get to Highway 69.

MALE CHARGED IN DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE

(Vankoughnet Twp., ON) – On Friday, the 15th February 2009 at 10:30 p.m. OPP officers attended a residence in Vankoughnet Township after receiving a 911 cell phone call from a distraught female.

OPP attended the scene and a 45 year old male was charged with assault with a weapon after he allegedly threw a phone at the victim struck her head, punched her in the face and grabbed her by the throat.

The male is being held in custody pending a bail hearing this morning at 10:00 a.m.

BREAK AND ENTER TO A RESIDENCE

(BATCHEWANA FIRST NATION, ON) – A break and enter to a residence in the 2000 block of Mission Road was reported to OPP on Sunday, 15th Feb. 2009.

The owners had been away for an extended period.

Stolen items included a 56 inch TV/DVD player; HDPVR, a box of DVD’s and 4 boxes of electronic materials were taken from the basement area.

STOLEN SNOWBOARD

(Hodgins Twp., ON), - A snowboard valued at $650.00 was stolen from a snow boarder at Searchmont Resort on Sunday 15th, February 2009 during the evening hours.

The board had a black top with “harmony” written in the middle in bright blue and pink.
