OPP AND MNR JOINT ENFORCEMENT
Numerous Charges Laid
(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) Joint snowmobile patrols were conducted by the OPP and the MNR over the past weekend.
Patrols were carried out on area lakes and trails both east and north of Sault Ste. Marie.
Twenty-nine charges were laid under the Motorized Snow Vehicle Act and two charges under the Fisheries Act.
OPP remind the public that consuming alcohol in an ice hut is illegal. The only exemption is if the ice hut contains legitimate sleeping and cooking facilities (like those found in on-ice bungalows).
OPP enforce this legislation recognizing that 30 percent of all Motorized Snow Vehicle fatalities involve the consumption of alcohol.
