FATAL MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION HIGHWAY 17 WEST On Tuesday February 2, 2010 at approximately 1225 PM Officers from the Sudbury/Espanola OPP Detachments responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 West of Fairbanks Road.

On Tuesday February 2, 2010 at approximately 1225 PM Officers from the Sudbury/Espanola OPP Detachments responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 West of Fairbanks Road. Officers are at the scene investigating the collision. At this time Highway 17 is shut down from Fairbanks Lake Road to Nairn Center.

Officers have set up a detour for passenger vehicles and school buses only.

Vehicles travelling Westbound on Hwy 17 will be allowed to turn onto Fairbanks Lake Road at the end of the 4 lanes and follow that road to the Spanish River Road. Spanish River Road will take the vehicles to Nairn Centre, where they will enter back onto Hwy 17. Vehicles travelling Eastbound will travel in the reverse direction.

The MTO has set up detour signs and OPP officers are directing traffic.

At this point in time there is no further information regarding the investigation.

The Ontario Provincial Police advise the public of the following road closure.

Location: Hwy 17 near Beaver Lake, east of Nairn Centre

Detachment area: Sudbury

Time of road closure: 1235 p.m. this date

Reason for the closure: Serious two vehicle collision

Detour: None identified at this time

BREAK AND ENTER TO CAMP

On February 1, 2010 a break and enter to a camp on Garside Road, Hilton Township, Ontario was reported to the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP.

The break and enter occurred sometime between October 18, 2009 and February 1, 2010.

Suspects entered the camp and a shed on the property. Suspects stole a Honda GX340 Generator, a battery and charger for the propane fridge, a socket set, liquor and towels. The value of the stolen property is estimated at $1200. The damage to the camp and shed is estimated at $200.
