FIREWOOD THIEVES

Echo Bay, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie OPP is investigating the theft of firewood from a home in Echo Bay.
Yesterday between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The footprints of several people were found in the snow at a woodpile at a home on Bar River Road.

The thieves removed about 10 armfuls of firewood and left the area. Cutting, splitting and piling wood for your winter heat is a long, involved and difficult task. To have someone walk onto your property and steal your source of heating is more than just a crime.

Let this crime serve as a reminder that we all should be looking around our neighbourhoods to see just what is happen all around us. Believe in your own intuition and call the police when you see something or just “feel” that something is just not right.

OUR BIG BLUE FLAG

Sault Ste Marie, Ont.,

The Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment is proud to have a new “addition” to our office. Outside our complex you may have seen our new big blue flag on the flagpole.

We are honoured to be flying the “SAFE COMMUNITY” flag in front of our building for a short period of time. The World Health Organization has designated Sault Ste Marie as an International Safe Community.

Volunteers, businesses and industries of all sizes have worked together with the Safe Communities Partnership to make Sault Ste Marie one of the safest places to live, learn, work and play. As a result of our designation, this community was presented with an official plaque commemorating the designation, and the honour and distinction of flying a flag that very few communities in the world have.

The Sault Ste Marie OPP Detachment is honoured to proudly display a symbol that recognizes the hard work and efforts of so many organizations across our city.

The flag will be moved to various locations across the city throughout the year. Congratulations Sault Ste Marie. The OPP are both grateful and humbled to have been a small part of the hard work of such a united community.
