The reasons unknown at this time the first vehicle braked heavily and started to slide. The vehicle slid across both lanes into the median and rolled over.

CLOSE CALL AT TWO HIGHWAY 17 EAST CRASHES

(Garden River First Nation, Ont.) A truck driver, an OPP officer and a tow truck driver narrowly escaped injuries after a vehicle careened into their crash site.

Yesterday at around 7:30 pm a Panel truck was traveling westbound on Highway 17 in Garden River about 5 kilometers west of highway 638. The driver of the truck lost control and skidded into the median and rolled over.
About an hour later the tow truck and Police cruiser were still at the scene trying to get the truck out. The cruiser was parked on the roadway in the left lane with all emergency lights activated.

Another westbound vehicle approached the crash site and lost control. The vehicle slid to the left side of the cruiser into the median and stopped between the disabled truck and the cruiser. The cruiser sustained minor scratches to the left side.

Luckily no one was injured. The driver of the third vehicle, 80 year old Orelle DESBOIS of 616 Bay St., Sault Ste. Marie, was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Fail to Drive in Marked Lane. The collision involving the cruiser is still under investigation.
