STREET LAMP VANDALIZED (HORNEPAYNE, ON.) – On February 5, 2010 Superior East OPP in Hornepayne received a complaint regarding damage to a street light at the intersection of Second Street and Third Avenue.

(HORNEPAYNE, ON.) – On February 5, 2010 Superior East OPP in Hornepayne received a complaint regarding damage to a street light at the intersection of Second Street and Third Avenue. Sometime within the past six months person(s) unknown had broken the lens with either a pellet gun or rock causing approximately $300.00 damage. It is also reported that this is the second incident involving this light within the past year. Damage of this nature is not only a safety hazard but is of considerable cost to have repaired. The OPP is asking anyone with information regarding these incidents to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

DRUG CHARGES LAID

(WHITE RIVER, ON) – On February 7, 2010 Superior East OPP in White River stopped a northbound Volkswagen Jetta on Highway 17 10 kilometres south of White River for speeding. There were two occupants in the vehicle. When spoken to, the male driver initially supplied a false name to the officers but his true identity was quickly learned. As a result of further investigation by officers at the scene it was discovered that the two subjects were in possession of a quantity of what appeared to be marihuana. Other criminal charges have been laid as well. The subjects, one being a 17 year old female, were subsequently arrested and held for a bail hearing in Sault Ste Marie.
John Thomas KORT age 25 of no fixed address is charged with;

(1) Possession of Marihuana under 30 grams, Controlled Drug and Substance act;
(2) Obstruct Justice; Criminal Code of Canada;
(3) Breach of Probation; Criminal Code of Canada;
(4) Drive While Disqualified; Criminal Code of Canada.

A 17 year old female who cannot be named under Youth Criminal Justice System has been charged with;

(1) Three counts of Fail to Comply with an Undertaking;
(2) Possession of Cannabis Marihuana under 30 grams, Controlled Drug and Substance act.

WINDOW AND SIGN DAMAGED AT LOCAL BUSINESS

(Desbarats, ON.) – On Monday February 8, 2010 a complaint was received regarding a window and sign being damaged at Northern Quality Meats, located on Deplonty Road, Johnson Township, Ontario.

Damage was noted on the window, including the plastic weather stripping and the overhead sign. The damage is estimated at $300.

The damage appears to have been caused by suspects shooting a BB gun or Pellet gun at the window and sign.

FLIGHT FROM POLICE AND MORE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The East Algoma OPP has arrested and charged a local male after received a traffic complaint.

At approximately 7:18 p.m. on February 8, 2010 police were advised there was a possible impaired driver driving a vehicle in the Taylor Boulevard area in Elliot Lake. Officers attended the area and located the vehicle on Pearson Drive. The officer activated the emergency lights, siren and had to accelerate to catch up to the vehicle. The vehicle did not stop for police and continued onto Mississauga Ave turning into a driveway. The driver attempted to run but was arrested by police.

Charged with the following is Timothy Richard BLOXOM (49) of Elliot Lake.

BLOXOM is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing in Sault Ste Marie on February 9, 2010.

MALE INJURED IN COOKING FIRE

(Havilland Twp., ON) - OPP and Goulais River Fire Department were called to a residence on Albert Terrance on Havilland Shores Drive yesterday morning at 8:58 am.

A 30 year old male had been preparing food on a stove in cooking oil. Once done, the stove was inadvertently left on and the pan had not been removed from the element. The oil caught fire which prompted the male to return to the kitchen area to put out the fire. It was at that time that the male spilled oil on himself.

The male received second degree burns to his legs, feet and left hand.

He was transported to Sault Area Hospital by Ambulance and remains in hospital in stable condition.

There was no damage to the residence.
