Motorists to Expect Delays
Highway 17 – West of Massey

(Espanola) – On July 9th, 2007 at 5:30 p.m., Espanola OPP officers investigated a motor vehicle collision on Highway 17, approximately a half of a kilometre west of Massey.

As a result of pulling too far off the roadway onto the soft shoulder, the tractor trailer flipped over on its side into the ditch, spilling its load of “animal resin” which is non toxic/dangerous. Officers reported the incident to MTO and Canutec. The driver received very minor injuries.

Tomorrow (July 11th, 2007) starting at 9:00 a.m., motorists should expect delays at this location while equipment is used to remove the contents from the trailer. Once this is complete, the tractor trailer unit will be towed from the ditch. The entire operation is expected to take between ten (10) to twelve (12) hours.

Although the highway is expected to be open to one lane throughout the day, during set up and the off-loading phase, it is anticipated that both lanes will be closed for approximately 1-2 hours near the end of the day when the actual towing is being conducted.
