OPP INVESTIGATE BUS CRASH

On Saturday July 12, 2008 at 6:20 pm Superior East Wawa OPP responded to a single vehicle bus roll over on Highway 101 about 15 kms East of Wawa in Esquega Twp. OPP were assisted by the Wawa Fire Dept and ambulance personnel. The bus was carrying fire crews from the Ministry of Natural Resources who were coming back from the Timmins area. The bus was Westbound when it left the highway and rolled several times. The seventeen people on board were transported to the Lady Dunn Hospital in Wawa all with non-life threatening injuries. Investigation is continuing.

UPDATE July 15, 2008

All 17 people injured in the collision were treated and released the same day with minor injuries. As a result of the investigation the driver of the bus, Gord BONITZKE age 54 of Wawa, has been charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.


COMPLAINT NET LOCAL MALES SEVERAL CHARGES

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On the 14th of July 2008 the OPP received a call regarding an unknown female party screaming for police. The caller indicated the screams were coming from an apartment unit on Brunswick Walk.

Officers arrived on scene at approximately 5:02 p.m. and attended the unit. While checking the residence for a possible person in need of assistance, police located a quantity of Cannabis Marihuana, 3 long guns and one pellet pistol.

Charged with the following is Patrick ARBOUR (19) of Elliot Lake.

Possession of Cannabis Marihuana – under 30grams
Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Careless Use of Firearms, Weapon, Ammunition

Also charged with the following is Albert John Michael PETERSON (41) of Elliot Lake.

Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Ammunition

ARBOUR and PETERSON are scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on October 10th, 2008.

SPEED NETS DRIVER 7 DAY SUSPENSION & MORE

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) While on general patrol on July 14th, 2008 at approximately 1:15 p.m. a police officer with the East Algoma OPP observed a vehicle exit a parking lot on Hillside Drive South in Elliot Lake. The vehicle while exiting accelerated heavily causing the rear tires to lose traction with the roadway.

The vehicle was located and stopped by the officer. The vehicle was seized for a period of 7 days and the license of the driver was also suspended for a period of 7 days.

The driver was charged with Street Racing under the Highway Traffic Act.
