(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a possible fraud. On June 3rd, 2008 two (2) unknown males attended a residence on Axmith Avenue in Elliot Lake claiming to be collecting funds for the Salvation Army. The complainant requested identification before donating and the suspects left the area without providing such.

Police would like to remind everyone to ensure you check identification from solicitors. When soliciting for various charities, individuals will be provided with identification by the charity.

Anyone with information regarding the above Fraud is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

CAR COLLIDES WITH DEER

(Garden River First Nation, Ont.) Yesterday afternoon at approximately 2:45 p.m. an SUV traveling eastbound on Highway 638 near the Root River bridge struck a deer that ran out of the ditch on the south side of the roadway.

There was minor damage to the vehicle and the driver was not injured. The deer on the other hand did not make it.

MORE ROAMING BEARS IN ECHO BAY AREA

(Garden River First Nation, Ont.) A mother bear and her cubs were spotted yesterday evening around 10:30 P.M. at a residence on Echo River Road.

The bears left prior to Police arrival.

IMPAIRED DRIVER CHARGED

(Fenwick Twp., Ont.) Early this morning around 1:20 a.m. an OPP officer stopped a 2004 black Chevy Aveo traveling westbound on Pineshores Road in Fenwick Township.

Investigation revealed that the driver had been consuming alcohol.

Arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle while Impaired and Operating a Motor Vehicle with over 80 mgs. of alcohol is 44 year old Wendy HARRISON-SEVERIN of 142 Groth Road in Goulais River.

HARRISON-SEVERIN was released on a Promise to Appear to court on the 14th July 2008.
