LOCAL MAN SPENDS THE NIGHT IN THE BUSH

(Labelle Twp., Ont.) A Sault Ste. Marie man spent a night in the bush after getting turned around on a trail just north of the Agawa River in Labelle Township.

42 year old Gregory SCHULER left on a fishing trip Sunday morning and failed to return home Sunday night.

OPP were contacted by family members on Monday morning to advise that SCHULER had not returned home. Family was aware that he had gone fishing up north but did not have a location.

A Police search was commenced by both Sault Ste. Marie and Wawa OPP officers. Shortly thereafter his vehicle was located on the Awausee trail road in Lake Superior Park.

Soon after his vehicle was located SCHULER contacted OPP from the Agawa Bay visitor centre in Lake Superior Park advising that he was okay and had spent the night in the bush after he had gotten turned around.

SCHULER had started a fire and built a shelter to keep warm throughout the night after injuring his knee.

The OPP would like to remind the public how important it is to tell someone where you are going and when you anticipate returning.

ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN AND MAKE SURE SOMEONE AT HOME KNOWS IT.
