ONE INJURED IN SNOW MACHINE COLLISION

Searchmont, Ont.,

One man was taken to Sault and Area Hospital by ambulance after an afternoon collision on his snow machine north of Searchmont.

At about 1:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon police, fire and ambulance were called to snow machine trail at the start of Whitman Dam Road. A further forty-two kilometres in on the trail a snow machine had gone off the trail and struck a culvert.

Members of the ambulance service, Goulais Fire and Rescue and the Searchmont Fire Departments responded to the victim. The man was removed from the collision scene by a fire department rescue sled.

Investigation has determined that the man was headed north on the Whitman Dam Trail when he was rounding a curve in the trail. His machine left the trail, crashed through a small series of trees and struck a culvert.

The driver was received non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Sault and Area Hospital for suspected upper body injuries. The identity of the driver is not known at this time.
