OPP Requesting Assistance in Solving Several Break and Enters

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The OPP need your help in solving a series of break and enters along the Highway 17 corridor between Thessalon and Highway 108.

Over the last several months there has been numerous break and enters to homes in Thessalon, Iron Bridge, Blind River and Spragge. Unknown suspect(s) have been breaking into homes in broad daylight while people are at work and out of their home. The culprit(s) have taken jewellery, computer equipment, cameras, DVD’s and cash.

Anyone with information regarding the above break and enters is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-705-942-7867.


Theft Of Backpack

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The OPP is currently investigating the theft of a backpack on Kindiogami Lake Rd in Wiseman. The complainant reports that while on his way to his hunting camp, two backpacks fell out of the trailer he was towing. This was noticed almost immediately. The vehicle was stopped and the complainant walked toward the backpacks. He picked up the first one and noticed a vehicle approaching the other backpack. An unknown person got out of the vehicle and picked up the backpack. The vehicle drove past the complainant without stopping. Inside the pack was a wallet containing cash, credit cards and identification. Also in the backpack was a camera, a GPS, a cell phone, liquor, clothing and prescription glasses. Value of items taken is approximately $2,000.00.

The vehicle is described as an older darker colored Jeep Cherokee. No further information available at this time.

Another Counterfeit $5.00 Surfaces in Elliot Lake

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP is investigating yet another complaint of a possible counterfeit $5.00.

Investigation revealed that the note was discovered when someone attempted to purchase groceries at a local store using the counterfeit bill. The $5.00 bill bearing serial # HOH9525309 is smaller than normal.

The note has been turned over to the RCMP for analysis and disposal.

Investigation continuing.

Threatening Investigation

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On October 9th, 2005 at approximately 7:07 p.m. police attended 100 Warsaw Place in Elliot Lake in regard to a possible threatening.

On scene police learned that the complainant had been threatened by a tenant of the building. Police spoke to the possible suspect and he continued to utter threats to the victim.

Charged with Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm is Larry OLSEN (71) of Elliot Lake. OLSEN was held in custody awaiting bail.

Investigation continuing.

OPP AND MNR JOIN FORCES TO "HUNT THE HUNTERS”

Sault Ste Marie, Ont., Members with the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit teamed up with the Ministry of Natural Resources Conservation Officer’s over the Thanksgiving weekend to check up on the hunters in the area.

This weekend saw the opening of moose season in most of Northern Ontario. Enforcement officers with both agencies teamed up and hit the bush roads in hopes of keeping all users of nature’s playground safe and lawful.

Over the weekend the two agencies traveled many back roads north of Sault Ste Marie and checked out vehicles and ATV’s.

Officers administered five roadside breath tests to people who had been drinking and issued one 12 hour drivers licence suspension. Seven people were charged with various liquor offences while four others were lucky enough to receive warnings for their liquor infractions.

Four people were charged with different infractions under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act and five others received warnings under the same act for their activities.

Officers also checked for the variety of paper work that is needed in order to carry a long gun while hunting. In lieu of enforcement action, officers took this opportunity to educated six different people on the various firearms forms you must carry with you while you are hunting.

Enforcement personnel from both agencies will continue to work together throughout this hunting season in hopes of keeping all users of the bush lawful and safe from injury or harm.


Weekend Crash Sends One To Hospital

Aweres Twp, Ont., A crash between a transport and a SUV north of Sault Ste Marie over the weekend sent one woman to hospital with minor injuries.

On Sunday 9 October 2005 at about 1:30 p.m. a northbound SUV was stopped on the shoulder of the Hwy 17 in Aweres Twp on the Mile Hill. The driver of the SUV made a u-turn into the path of a southbound transport.

The transport struck the rear of the SUV causing major damage to the vehicle. A Seventy six year old female passenger in the SUV was transported to Sault and Area Hospital by ambulance where she was treated for minor injuries. The driver of the SUV, Seventy seven year old Giusippe Coccimiglio of Sault Ste Marie has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario with Change Lanes—Not in Safety.


Bail Court For A Heyden Man

Heyden, Ont.,A twenty three year old Heyden man will appear in bail court this morning after being accused of slashing a neighbours tires and associating with another person while under a court order not to do so.

On Saturday morning a resident of Cedar Court in Rupert Acres Trailer Park awoke to find the front tires on her car had been slashed. The investigation indicated that a neighbour may have been responsible for the act.


Police attended the home of the suspect and while talking to him they identified a female in the same house. Further investigation indicated that the man had been previously released from custody under the conditions not to associate with the woman. He was arrested and charged for slashing the tires and breach of a court order.

Twenty three year old Robert Morrision, of Cedar Court, Heyden will appear in bail court this morning.

Another Hyden B&E

Heyden, Ont., Sault Ste Marie OPP is investigating the break and enter and theft into a shed in Heyden.

Sometime over the past two weeks thieves broke into a shed behind a home on Maki Lake Road in Heyden. The thieves literally ripped a generator off a wall in the shed and stole the generator.


...AND SOMEHOW THEY DIDN’T REALIZE THE DANGER INVOLVED IN THIS PRANK...

Heyden, Ont.,Four Heyden youths were taken home to their respective parents over the weekend after they were found laying on the railway tracks and the side of the highway in Heyden.

Last night at about 8:30 p.m. a motorist report four youths lying on Hwy 556 near the Aweres Township Fire Hall. The motorist report that at first he thought he hit one of the youths until all four got up and ran into the bush. A second report from the same area a short time later indicated that the four were now laying on the railway tracks in the same area.

Police located the two girls and two boys, aged 12 and 13 in the area. They all were taken home to their respective parents in hopes that a lecture in common sense and reality would delivered.
