OPERATION IMPACT RESULTS (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – Sault Ste. Marie OPP was kept busy over the long weekend with 83 charges being laid under the Provincial Offences Act.

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – Sault Ste. Marie OPP was kept busy over the long weekend with 83 charges being laid under the Provincial Offences Act. Twenty seatbelt charges were laid for non-compliance, forty speeding charges and twenty-three moving violation and documentation charges were also laid.

IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGE LAID
(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – On the 10th October 2010 at 8:26 pm an OPP officer on patrol was travelling westbound on Trunk Road when a silver Dodge van approached at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then swerved into the lane causing the Police cruiser to take evasive action and pull over to the curb to avoid a collision. The vehicle was stopped and further investigation revealed that the driver had been drinking alcohol. 38 year old John Willard Pine of Orlando, Florida was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Driving while Exceeding 80 Milligrams blood alcohol content. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear at Provincial Court on 8 November, 2010.

(Tronsen Twp., ON) – A vehicle was stopped by OPP on Batchewana River Road on the 8th October at 11:52 pm. The driver of the Ford Pick up was observed to be in possession of a small quantity of a substance believed to be Cannabis resin. 23 year old Tristan Anderson of 826 Lakeshore Drive, Sault Ste. Marie was arrested and charged with Possession Schedule II of Cannabis resin contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear at Provincial court on 10 November 2010.

TWO MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISIONS INVOLVING WILDLIFE
(Snow Twp., ON) – Two motor vehicle collisions were reported over the weekend on Highway 17 north. A moose was struck by a Dodge ram and a bear was struck by a car. No injuries were reported to the driver’s or their passengers

FAILING TO STOP FOR POLICE LEADS TO ARREST
(Blind River, ON.) – On October 9, 2010 at 2:45 a.m. while conducting R.I.D.E. checks in the area of Hudson Street in Blind River, officers observed a red Honda appear to turn onto a side street to avoid police. The officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the Honda accelerated through the town streets. After losing sight of the vehicle officers ended the pursuit. At 3:05 a.m. officers located the vehicle parked in the bush off Schuurm Ave. in Blind River. A check of the vehicle revealed that is was stolen from Sudbury. Officers from the OPP Emergency Response Team (E.R.T) and Canine were called to the scene. A search of the area produced negative results. On October 11, 2010 while investigating an unrelated incident officers were able to identify and arrest the persons responsible for the earlier pursuit.

A 15 year old from Blind River who can not be identified has been charged with the following:

1) Theft of a motor vehicle over $5000, section 334(a) Criminal Code
2) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000, section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code
3) Flight from Police, section 249.1(1) Criminal Code
4) Fail to comply with undertaking, section 145(3) Criminal Code
5) Obstruct Peace Officer, section 1299a) Criminal Code
6) Fail to Comply with Sentence Disposition, section 137 Youth Criminal Justice Act

A 15 year old from Sudbury who can not be identified has been charged with the following:

1) Theft of a motor vehicle over $5000, section 334(a) Criminal Code
2) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000, section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code
3) Flight from Police, section 249.1(1) Criminal Code

Both youths were held in custody for a bail hearing in Sault Ste Marie on October 12, 2010.
