Stolen Vehicle Stopped

Thievery was in the air yesterday and Sault Ste. Marie O.P.P. was kept busy following up on the dishonorable work of the dishonest. Police work could be so much easier if folks would stop coveting that which they have not earned.

Around 12:30 A.M. this morning a silver grey Toyota Celica stopped in front of a residence on Lake Street in Echo Bay. Two men stepped out and went for a stroll down the road. A resident observing this felt that it was suspicious and notified police. While officers were enroute the two men returned to the car and headed west on Highway 17. This information was relayed to the responding officers. This suspicious vehicle was located in the Garden River area and was stopped.

The driver attempted to verbally hoodwink the officers with a tale of borrowing the vehicle from his aunt. Subsequent checks put an end to that chicanery. The true story showed that the car had been reported stolen from Ottawa, Ontario and the owner was not an aunt to either of the occupants.

Terry Scott WILLIAMS, 26, of no fixed abode and Richard Wade THIEVIN (fitting surname wouldn’t you say?), 21, of a similarly unknown address were arrested and charged with Possession of Stolen Property. They are both scheduled to appear in bail court today.

Auto B&E

In Aweres Township someone had no qualms about entering a vehicle that did not belong to them. A very nice car stereo system is now missing and the investigation is continuing.
Perplexing Incident

On Green Acres Road in Goulais Township would-be thieves entered another parked vehicle. It is not clear at this time what, if anything, was stolen. Curiously the suspects spread tools that had been stored in the car, around the vehicle in the driveway. The purpose of that exercise is perplexing. The investigation is continuing.

Not too far way, from the driveway tool display, a cottage was broken into. A list of stolen property is not available at this time. Both of these incidents occurred overnight between the 16th and 17th of October.

Attempted Break In

It appears that someone made efforts to gain entry to an apartment at the Batchewana first Nation Elders Complex. It does not appear that they were successful but the culprits did manage to damage a window crank demonstrating their ineptitude. The investigation continues into this matter and area patrols have been increased.
