POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNAGRAPHY CHARGES FOR LOCAL MALE (Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP Crime Unit and the Child Pornography Section of the OPP have concluded their investigation regarding possession of child pornography.
POSSESSION OF CHILD PORNAGRAPHY CHARGES FOR LOCAL MALE

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP Crime Unit and the Child Pornography Section of the OPP have concluded their investigation regarding possession of child pornography.

Charged with Possession of Child Pornography is Brian David DREW (37) of Westview Crescent in Elliot Lake. DREW remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing scheduled for October 10, 2007.


ASSAULT ON CAUSLEY STREET

(Blind River, Ont.) October 05, 2007 police received a complaint of a possible assault. The complainant reported that the suspect had allegedly assaulted her on Causley Street in Blind River.

Charged with Assault is Randall Clifford WONG. WONG is scheduled to appear in court in Blind River on December 6th, 2007.

SINGLE VEHICLE COLLISION ON STANROCK ROAD

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) On October 4th, 2007 at approximate 12:20 p.m. the East Algoma OPP received a call regarding a single vehicle collision on Stanrock Road north of Elliot Lake off highway 108.

Charged with Over 80 and Impaired Driving is Paavo VIUHKO (58) of Elliot Lake. VIUHKO is scheduled to appear in court in Elliot Lake on December 4, 2007.

ROAD CLOSURE FINDS TWO WITH DOPE

(Heyden, Ont.) An officer with the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit found two local men with lots of drugs at a detour this weekend.

On Saturday Oct 6, 2007 at about 12:30 p.m. officers were at a road closure checkpoint due to the heavy rain on Hwy 17 in Heyden. A vehicle pulled up to the officer and he immediately noticed obvious indicators of what he suspected to be an illegal substance in the vehicle. One of the signs was suspected marijuana leaves on the lap of the driver.

Both occupants of the vehicle were arrested and a search of the vehicle turned up about three (3) pounds of suspected marijuana in the vehicle.

As a result of this investigation forty seven (47) year old Victor DUFFIELD and fifty five (55) year old Denis CORMIER, both of 52 London Street in Sault Ste Marie faces two charges. The pair have been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act. They will appear in court on November 26, 2007. Police estimate the drug to be worth about $27,000.00

BREAKS IN TO ASSAULT HIS EX-SPOUSE

(Batchewana First Nation, Ont.) The Batchewana First Nation Police have charged a Sault Ste Marie man after he broke into a home on the territory and assaulted the occupants of the house.

On Sunday morning at about 8:00 a.m. the man attended a home on Pontiac Street and broke in through a door. He confronted his ex-spouse and a male friend of the spouse. The woman was assaulted and choked and the male friend was also assaulted. The suspect fled the area prior to police arrival. He was located about three hours later by the Sault Ste Marie City Police in the east end of the city. The man was turned over to the Batchewana First Nation Police.

A thirty two (32) year old Sault Ste Marie resident now faces charges of assault and break and enter. Both victims did not require medical attention.

YOUTH CHARGED WITH THREATENING

(Sault Ste Marie, Ont.) A thirteen year old youth will appear in bail court this morning after threatening staff at a group home.

On Sunday Oct 7 2007 at about 6:00 p.m. a youth called the worker at the group home and asked for transportation back to the house. When the youth was told to take a bus, he threatened to stab the worker when he got back to the home. The thirteen year old was arrested by police when he finally did arrive at the house.

He will appear in bail court this morning to answer charges of threatening and breach of an undertaking.

SPEEDER HAS THEIR RENTAL CAR IMPOUNDED

(Laird Twp, Ont.) A member of the OPP Traffic and Marine Unit impounded a driver’s rental vehicle after he found them with many traffic violations.

On Monday Oct 3, 2007 at about 11:30 a.m. the officer was conducting traffic patrols in Laird Twp. He clocked an eastbound vehicle at 55 kilometers over the speed limit. The car was pulled over and it was discovered that a two year old child was sitting on the lap of a passenger, totally unrestrained. Further investigation found that the driver does not have a driver’s licence and two other passengers, under 16 years of age were also not wearing their seat belts.

As a result of this stop, the female driver, twenty one year old Nomagugu SUBANDA, of Edmonton Alberta faces speeding and seat belt charges. Her rental vehicle has been impounded for the next seven days and her drivers licence has been suspended for seven days.

At the request of the travelers the family was dropped off at a local food establishment in Sault Ste Marie. Ms. Subanda has been summons to court for November 21, 2007.
