YOUTH CHARGED WITH ASSAULT (CHAPLEAU, ON) – On October 5, 2012 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Chapleau Detachment were advised of an assault that had occurred the night prior at the Chapleau Recreational Centre.

YOUTH CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

(CHAPLEAU, ON) – On October 5, 2012 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Chapleau Detachment were advised of an assault that had occurred the night prior at the Chapleau Recreational Centre.  As a result a 14-year-old youth was charged with assault and is scheduled to appear in Chapleau Criminal Court on December 5, 2012.

DAMAGE TO FIRE HYDRANT – FAIL TO REMAIN UNDER INVESTIGATION

(DUBREUILVILLE, ON) – On October 5, 2012 officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Superior East Wawa Detachment were advised of a fail to remain motor vehicle collision that had occurred on Chemin Industriel, Dubreuilville.  A fire hydrant and two steel posts were found damaged on the morning of the 5th.  The hydrant was cracked off of its base and moved approximately 20 feet from its original position.  The OPP continue to investigate this fail to remain.  Anyone with any information is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers.

MALE ARRESTED DOMESTIC ASSAULT

(WAWA, ON) – On October 7, 2012 in the early hours Wawa officers with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a domestic disturbance that had taken place on Joliet St, Wawa.  A 20-year-old male was arrested for assault and is scheduled to appear in Wawa Criminal Court on December 10, 2012.  OPP do not release the names of accused in domestic matters to protect the identity of the victims.

Later that same day the OPP were advised that the youth accused had breached his release conditions.  He was arrested in White River, Ontario and was charged with 2 counts of breach of undertaking.  These charges have been added to the December 10 appearance.

EXPIRED POSSESSION ONLY LICENCE RESULTS IN SEIZED FIREARMS AND CHARGES

(CHAPLEAU, ON) – On October 7, 2012 Superior East Chapleau Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a Spot Check at the intersection of Highways 129 and 667 in Nimitz Township.  During on of the checks a firearm in its case was observed on the front passenger seat along with a box of ammunition.  A check on the status of the driver’s firearm license was done and revealed that it was expired as of July, 2010.  As a result 38 year old Stephane LAPLANTE of Dubreuilville was charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.  The accused is scheduled to appear in Chapleau Criminal Court on December 5, 2012.  Two firearms were seized from the accused.

OPERATION IMPACT RESULTS

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON)Sault Ste. Marie OPP participated in the annual Operation Impact campaign this past Thanksgiving weekend.

One hundred and ten charges were laid on local area roads and highways.

Charges were laid under the Highway Traffic Act for speeding; lack of seatbelt usage; careless driving; distracted driving and lack of proper documentation.

Five charges were laid under the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario for having liquor readily available in a vehicle.

OPP will continue to focus on driving habits that are the primary sources contributing to serious injuries and deaths in motor vehicle collisions.  

OPP will continue to lead the way through targeted enforcement and enhancing public education and awareness.

RIDE SPOT CHECK LEADS TO DRUG CHARGES

(Sault Ste. Marie, ON)At approximately 8:00 pm on October 8, 2012 Sault Ste. Marie OPP officers were conducting RIDE spot checks at the East city limits.

A van approached the spot check and an officer detected a strong odour of a substance believed to be marihuana emanating from within the vehicle.

As a result of further investigation and a search of the vehicle, a small quantity of recently cultivated marihuana plants and approximately 180 grams of a substance believed to be marihuana separated into small individual baggies were located.

Nineteen year old Gregory William WISHMAN of Danby Road in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario was arrested and charged with one count of Possession of Cannabis - over 30 grams and one count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking schedule II under 3 kilograms contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was released on a Promise To Appear for Provincial Court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on November 19, 2012.

A seventeen year old female was also arrested and charged with one count of Possession of Cannabis - over 30 grams and one count of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking schedule II under 3 kilograms contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear in Youth Court in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on November 20, 2012.
