2008 SEAT BELT CAMPAIGN

(East Algoma) The Ontario Provincial Police will be fully engaged in the 2008 Fall Seat Campaign beginning October 1st, 2008 to October 12th, 2008. Drivers can expect to see OPP officers of the East Algoma doing stop checks as officers look for proper seat belt use.

Officers witness first hand the devastating bodily injury and death that occurs in a car crash. Police know from roadside experience that seat belts do reduce injury and save lives.

It is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that passengers are properly buckled up. They also are legally responsible for ensuring that passengers under the age of 16 are properly buckled up in a seat belt, an appropriate child car seat or booster seat.

“Using a seat belt is a very effective way to reduce the chance of injury or death in a motor vehicle collision” explains Sgt M. Boivin. “It’s difficult for the average person to imagine the horrific consequences of becoming a human projectile within a vehicle but it’s an image our officers often see when they respond to a crash”.

MAKE THE SMART CHOICE! BUCKLE UP!
