NUMEROUS CHARGES LAID OVER LABOUR DAY WEEKEND
(Sault Ste. Marie, ON) – Sault Ste. Marie OPP investigated one motor vehicle collision over the Labour Day Weekend. On Friday, September 3rd at 7:10 am a tractor trailer travelling southbound on Highway 17 North in Kincaid Township rolled into the east ditch. The driver and 3 occupants were transported to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. The driver, 37 year old Jason Parks of Severn Bridge, Ontario was charged with Careless Driving and Failing to Keep a Proper Daily Log under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

(Aweres Twp., ON) – On Monday, 6 September 2010 an OPP officer on patrol westbound on Highway 556 in Aweres Township observed a silver Hyundai on the side of the roadway and stopped to see if the driver was okay. The officer detected an odour of an alcoholic beverage and subsequent investigation revealed that the driver had been drinking alcohol. Arrested and charged with Driving with Over 80 mgs of alcohol is 43 year old Patrick Scott of Devon Road in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. The accused was released on a Promise to Appear for court on 15 September 2010.

Seatbelts: 6 charges
Careless driving: 1 charge
Other Highway Traffic Act Offences: 15 charges

HAS ANYONE ELSE SEEN THIS ‘GREEN LIGHT’?
(Ryan Twp.,ON) – On Monday, 6 September 2010 at 12:30 am a driver travelling northbound on Highway 17 in a tractor trailer in the area of Gimlet Creek Rd. and Pancake River reported seeing a bright green “laser” type light shining in his truck windshield followed by the window smashing. The driver returned to Sault Ste. Marie and while reporting it to Sault Ste. Marie OPP, a second call came in from a northbound Greyhound Bus reporting damage from projectiles in the same area in Pancake Bay. The bus driver reported the same green light or “laser” and further that he saw two males in their late teens or early 20’s. Damage consisted of small dents and scratches to the side of the bus.

ULTRA-LIGHT PLANE CRASH – NO INJURIES
(HORNEPAYNE, ON.) – On Monday September 6, 2010 at approximately 10:05 am, a small Ultra Light Kitfox Model 1V aircraft was enroute from Carey Lake to KABI LAKE in FARQUAR TWP just east of HORNEPAYNE. The craft developed apparent engine problems and as a result the pilot, Mario PROULX age 46 years of HEARST, Ontario was forced to crash-land in a wooded area near the KABI RIVER. Although the craft was severely damaged, the pilot was not injured and walked approximately 1 kilometre to the CN rail tracks and was able to call by satellite phone for assistance. He was subsequently picked up by a passing train and transported to HORNEPAYNE. Transport Canada was notified and is presently investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.
