TOWNSHIP OF THE NORTH SHORE - On April 24, 2017, shortly after 2:30 a.m., members from the East Algoma Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Hwy 538 in Algoma Mills.

Police attended the area and located an abandoned vehicle with extensive damage that was still running and stuck in a ditch. Police patrolled the area and located two males a short distance away from the abandoned vehicle. 

Both males were highly intoxicated and would not cooperate with police. Both males were arrested and lodged until sober. The vehicle was towed.

As a result of the investigation, Harry Hood, 22 years age from Elliot Lake, Ontario was issued a provincial offence notice and charged with: 

  • Being intoxicated in a public place, contrary to section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA).

Christian Varga, 20 years of age, from Elliot Lake, Ontario, was issued three provincial offence notices and charged with:

  • Fail to report accident-specified location, contrary to section 199(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
  • Fail to change address, contrary to section 9(2) of the HTA; and
  • Being intoxicated in a public place, contrary to section 31(4) of the LLA.
