Two people accused of assaulting security guards in Goulais

Two individuals face charges after it is alleged they assaulted security guards at a community centre in Goulais River last Saturday evening.

Full text of a news release issued by OPP regarding this incident follows:

GOULAIS TOWNSHIP - On July 9, 2022 shortly after 11:30 p.m., members from the Sault Ste Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a disturbance at a local community centre in the Town of Goulais River.

Investigation determined security guards were attempting to remove an intoxicated person from the venue that was causing a disturbance. [It is alleged that] this person then became irate and fought with security guards. While dealing with this individual, another person joined the fight and [allegedly] assaulted one of the security guards.

As a result, Benjamin Madonna, 24 years of age from Goulais River, was charged with assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC).

Brittany Wiebe, 32 years of age Sault Ste. Marie, was charged with assault, contrary to section 266 of the CC.

Both accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste. Marie on Aug. 8, 2022.
