Wanted federal offender has ties to northern Ontario

A man well known to Greater Sudbury Police is now wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, according to the OPP’s Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad. 

They’re requesting the public’s help in locating federal offender Tyler Closs, 26, known to frequent Sudbury, Kingston and Toronto. 

Closs is wanted for breaching his statutory release while serving a four-year-six-month sentence for two counts each of aggravated assault and assaulting peace officer with a weapon or intimidation, as well as obstructing police and simple assault. 

He is described as 5-8 tall, 330 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and several tattoos, including a cross on his left cheek, a heart on his left hand and a star on his right hand. 

In 2016, a then 18-year-old Closs was wanted for a domestic-related assault, uttering threats, mischief under $5,000, breach of recognizance, breach of probation under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, withdrawal of surety and failing to appear in court. 

Then, in 2022, Closs was arrested in connection with a robbery on Mountain Street in Sudbury and charged with Robbery, as well as weapons and possession charges.
