Wawa man faces numerous charges related to assault investigation

A 47-year-old Wawa resident faces a number of charges after officers from the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of an assault on Feb. 3.

Full text of a news release issued by OPP follows:

On Feb. 3, 2022 at approximately 5:22 p.m., members of the Superior East Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an assault that occurred on Mission Road in Wawa.

As a result of the investigation, Charles Turner, 47 years of age of Wawa, was arrested and charged with the following:
    •    Assault, contrary to section 266 of the Criminal Code (CC),
    •    Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm, contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) of the CC,
    •    Causing a disturbance, contrary to section 175(1)(a) of the CC,
    •    Forcible entry, contrary to section 72(1) of the CC,
    •    Assault with intent to resist arrest, contrary to section 270(1)(b) of the CC,
    •    Failure to comply with undertaking, contrary to section 145(4)(a) of the CC, and
    •    Failure to comply with release order, contrary to section 145(5)(a) of the CC.

The accused was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing.
