WE JUST SPENT THE DAY CLEANING AND YOU DID WHAT ???
Heyden, Ont

A Heyden man has been given a an expensive reminder not to mess with people who volunteer for their community.

Earlier this week volunteers participated in the Ministry of Transportation’s “Adopt a Highway” program. A group of volunteers spent the day cleaning the shoulder and ditches along a section of Highway 556 in Heyden from Hwy 17 to Hwy 552 .

When the volunteers fill a bag with garbage they leave it on the side of the roadway and the Ministry of Transportation picks the bags up. The next morning several of the volunteers drove by and found that someone had dropped a large pile of their own household garbage bags on the side of the road.

A cooperative effort with the Ministry of Transportation and Sault Ste Marie OPP has resulted in charges against a Heyden man.

It turns out that another resident of Heyden paid the man to remove garbage from their home. It is alledged that the man kept the money and just dumped the six bags of garbage on the side of the roadway in hopes that it wouldn’t be noticed.

Twenty year old Eric KENNEDY of Heyden has been charged with Littering the Highway contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario. If found guilty of his actions he will face a fine of $110.00
