(Red Lake, ON) The Ontario Provincial Police has charged a Young Person who was involved in the March 2004 fatal snowmobile collision that took the life of a cross-country skier.

On March 5th, 2004, Red Lake OPP began investigating an early morning collision between a snowmobile and a cross-country skier. The collision took the life of John Kovala, aged 41, of #3 Birkshire Place, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Kovala had been cross-country skiing on a frozen section of Red Lake during the evening hours when he was struck by the snowmobile. The OPP has concluded its two-month investigation, which involved an OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator and the Centre of Forensic Science.

The 16-year-old male has been charged with Criminal Negligence Causing Death, contrary to the Criminal Code. The Young Person is to appear before Red Lake Court on the 26th of August.

TAKING THE FAMILY CAR WILL NOW COST MORE THAN GAS

Goulais River, Ont

A seventeen-year-old Goulais River youth and his friend will now face charges after taking the family car without permission.

Last night his parent returned home to find that out that on the previous evening the youth and his friends had taken the car for a ride. Police were called and charges of Take Auto Without Consent are now pending against the 17 year old Goulais River youth and his friends.

Members of the Sault Ste Marie detachment responded to four family and property disputes yesterday.

The police sorted out disagreements between ex spouses and interpretations of various court orders. No charges were laid in any of the four disputes.
