TRAFFIC STOP LEADS TO CHARGES

(CHAPLEAU) – On April 27, 2009 OPP in Chapleau had occasion to check a vehicle and male driver on Highway 101 in Cochrane Township. A subsequent check revealed the driver to be driving while his Ontario Driver’s Licence was suspended and he was on Probation. Further investigation revealed the driver to be in possession of what appeared to be Marihuana. As a result Andre FRANCOUR age 21 of Timmins, Ontario stands charged with:

1) Possession of Marihuana under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act
2) Breach of Probation
3) Drive motor vehicle while under suspension
4) Drive motor vehicle – No Licence

He will appear in court at a later date to answer to the charges.

MOOSE/VEHICLE COLLISIONS

(WAWA/WHITE RIVER) – During the past 24 hours three Motor Vehicle collisions involving Moose have been investigated between Wawa and White River causing property damage but no injuries. Motorists are reminded to use caution while driving as moose are beginning to make an appearance on area roadways.

R.I.D.E. – RIDE checks throughout the Superior East patrol area resulted in 260 vehicles being checked with 1 seat belt infraction and one other Highway Traffic Act warning being issued. No other infractions were noted.

VEHICLE STOP LEADS TO IMPAIRED DRIVER

(Vankoughnet Twp., ON) – An OPP officer on patrol yesterday evening at approximately 9:30 pm on Pineshores Road in Goulais River pulled over a red 1997 Ford Explorer vehicle being driven by a male driver.

The driver exhibited obvious signs of alcohol impairment.

Arrested and charged with Having Care and control of a Motor Vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood is Derrick Ferragini of 65 Friendly Lane in Goulais River.

Ferragini was released on a Promise to Appear for court on the 10th June 2009.

DRIVER CHARGED WITH STUNT DRIVING

(Highway 17B, Garden River, ON) – On Monday, April 27th, 2009 at 7:30 pm an OPP officer was conducting moving radar eastbound on Highway 17B in Garden River.

A westbound 1994 blue Honda Accord was observed traveling at what appeared to be in excess of the posted speed limit.

The driver was locked on radar traveling 130 km/hr in a posted 60 km/hr zone.

Charged with Stunt Driving under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario and Failing to properly wear a seatbelt is George Lloyd HICKS of 129 Eagle St. in Garden River, ON.

HICKS had his driver’s license suspended for 7 days and his vehicle towed.

HICKS was issued a Summons to appear in court on June 10th.

TWO CHARGED WITH USE OF STOLEN CREDIT CARDS

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) Police have arrested and charged two local people in relations to a complaint of stolen credit cards reported March 31, 2009.

The owners of the residence had been away and upon their returned noted two credit cards missing. Investigation revealed that the suspect(s) had used the cards.

Charged with the following charges is Andrea Leigh MACDONALD (18) of Elliot Lake.
Possession and use of a stolen credit card (2 counts)
MACDONALD is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on June 2, 2009.

Also charged with the following is Derek Todd DOBRATZ (18) of Elliot Lake.
Possession and use of a stolen credit card (4 counts)
DOBRATZ remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing in Sault Ste Marie on April 29, 2009.

FRAUD CHARGES

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) The East Algoma OPP arrested and charged a local man relating to a Fraud incident reported April 15th, 2009.

Police received a complaint from a local bank in Elliot Lake regarding cheques written and cashed from a closed back account. The account in question had been closed due to the death of the account holder.

Charged with Fraud Under $5,000.00 (2 counts) is Derek Todd DOBRATZ (18) of Elliot Lake. DOBRATZ remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing scheduled in Sault Ste Marie on April 29, 2009.
