Local traffic to the west of Ranger Lake is being permitted.

ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE SPRING SEATBELT CAMPAIGN COMES TO AN END

(Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) The Sault Ste. Marie detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police checked more than 3000 vehicles during the annual spring seatbelt initiative which ended this past Sunday night.

Locally, 23 charges were laid against drivers, and 5 charges were laid against passengers for not buckling up.

These numbers are up from the same time in 2007 where 11 drivers were charged and 2 charges were laid against passengers for not buckling up.

Last year, 117 people were killed on roads patrolled by the OPP as a result of not being buckled up.

There are still drivers out there who don’t get it. The few seconds it takes to buckle up could be the difference between living and dying if you are involved in a collision.
