Attempts to evade speeding charges resulted in the seizure of 7 radar warning devices by a Sault Ste Marie Traffic and Marine officer, from motorists traveling on Hwy # 17 on the 14th of August. The suspects were from all over, including some Algoma District residents. The police have the ability to detect radar warning devices, which are prohibited in Ontario. The fine for having a Radar Warning Device is $170.00 and upon conviction the devices will be destroyed. Some of the devices cost in excess of $600.00.

Traffic Stop Results in Drug Seizure

A traffic stop for an obstructed license plate on Hwy # 17 in Laird Township resulted in the discovery of 12 grams of Marihuana. Charged with possession of a controlled substance contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act , is Terry Williston age 36 of Calgary Alberta.

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP want to remind citizens that you have the right to say “no” to Telemarketers.

Not all telemarketers are dishonest or high-pressure but their main objective is to convince you to donate your money or buy their product.

Do your homework. Don’t make quick decisions. Check out the company calling you on the phone or standing at your door. Ask the caller to send you information in the mail before making your decision i.e. for donations.

Although it should be noted that not all telemarketers are high-pressure. Remember you have the right to say “no” and hang up the phone or close the door.
