POLICE CHARGE MAN WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER (Wahnapitae, ON) - On Monday, August 18, 2008 at 9:30 p.m., an altercation between two men at a Wahnapitae residence escalated into an incident on Highway 17 involving a motor vehicle and a bicycle.
POLICE CHARGE MAN WITH ATTEMPTED MURDER

(Wahnapitae, ON) - On Monday, August 18, 2008 at 9:30 p.m., an altercation between two men at a Wahnapitae residence escalated into an incident on Highway 17 involving a motor vehicle and a bicycle.

One of the individuals involved in the altercation left the residence on a bicycle travelling westbound along the shoulder of Highway 17, in the Town of Wahnapitae within the City of Greater Sudbury. Shortly thereafter, the cyclist was struck by a vehicle driven by the other male. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was released from hospital.

Shawn YOUNG, age 27, of Sudbury was arrested yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, August 19, 2008) in Sudbury and has been charged with Attempted Murder and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm.

He was held in custody and will appear for a bail hearing today (August 20, 2008).

BURNS ARRESTED AND CHARGED

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP criminal investigation branch has arrested and charged a former Elliot Lake resident with several charges pertaining to incidents going back to 2003.

Police learned that the accused had allegedly acquired money from the victims on the pretence of having secured a contract from the provincial government.

Charged with the following is Ryan BURNS– also known as Barry Thomas RICE (50) of Tweed, Ontario.

Fraud over $5,000
Theft Over
Theft Over $5,000 of a Motor Vehicle
Extortion
Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
Intimidation – use violence

BRUNS was held in custody and has since been released with several conditions.

BURNS is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on October 7, 2008.

SUSPICIOUS MALE CALL RESULTS IN SEVERAL CHARGES

(Blind River, Ont.) August 18, 2008 the East Algoma OPP received a call regarding a suspicious male in the area of Mountain Glen Road in Blind River.

Police attended and located the male. Investigation revealed that the suspect was in the area looking for odd jobs to assist in paying his way to British Columbia. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle the suspect was driving was found to be stolen.

Charged with the following is Jessy Timothy ROSE (20) of Scarbourough, Ontario.

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000.
Obstruct Police
Personation with Intent
Drive Disqualified
Breach of Probation X 4
Breach of Recognizance X 2

ROSE remains in custody.

Deroche Twp Break and Enters

Sault Ste Marie OPP are investigating break and enters into two seasonal residences on Mountainview rd in Deroche Twp. 25 km north of Sault Ste Marie. The camps were entered by forcing the front doors. Alcohol was taken from the properties. Speed too Fast causes Wake Problems in Canadian Canal Area

Canadian Canal Authorities are asking boaters using the locks to slow down. The locks are a no wake zone and speeds less than 6 mph. are required. There has a been a trend as of late of vessels entering the locks area creating wakes that could hazard smaller boats. Please slow down and avoid a potential upsetting of smaller boats. Potential charges of Speeding with a fine of $125.00 or Careless operation of a vessel with a fine of 4245.00 could be laid should an incident occur.
