ONE INJURED AFTER ONE MOOSE CAUSES TWO COLLISIONS

Laird Twp, Ont., One person was injured and a second driver escaped injury after two separate vehicles struck one moose last night.

At about 8:00 p.m. last night a vehicle was traveling east on Hwy 17 in Laird Twp east of Echo Bay. The first car struck a moose on the highway and the car went into the ditch. The driver of the car, sixty three year old Mary Louise BUERKLE of Richard Landing, was taken to hospital with none life threatening injuries. Her car was extensively damaged and had to be towed from the scene.

Immediately after the first car stuck the moose a second vehicle traveling in the same direction hit the dead moose on the roadway. The second driver did not see the first crash victim in the ditch. The second driver told police that his car became airborne after hitting the carcass but he was not injured. He was able to drive his vehicle to a nearby business where he called police.

DRINKING AND DRIVING DOESN’T PAY FOR LOCAL CITIZEN

(Thessalon, Ontario) On Tuesday December 20, 2005 at approximately 9:30 pm a member of the East Algoma – Thessalon OPP was conducting radar on Highway 17, when a motor vehicle passed him traveling in excess of the posted 90 kilometer zone.

The vehicle was stopped and the driver subsequently arrested for impaired driving.

The driver Mark David VASEY (20) of Thessalon, Ontario has been charged under the Criminal Code with:

Impaired Driving
Over 80 mgs
Breach of Probation (X2)

VASEY also faces charges of “driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available” under the Liquor Licence Act and “speeding” and “drive motor vehicle – no licence” under the Highway Traffic Act.

VASEY was released on a Promise to Appear in Thessalon Court on January 26, 2006.

SNOWMACHINE CRASH SEND SAULT TEEN TO LONDON HOSPITAL

Pennefather Twp, An eighteen year old Sault Ste Marie teenager has been airlifted to London University Hospital after a snow machine crash last night.

At about 5:00 p.m. last night a group of five snow machines were headed north on the snow machine trail in Pennefather Twp just north of the Sault Ste Marie City limits. This section of trail is at the end of Old Goulais Bay Road leading out of the City.

A preliminary investigation is indicating that the teenager was traveling on his machine when he hit a bump in the trail and became airborne. When he landed he was thrown from the machine and the machine rolled. The other riders with him were unable to get any response from the teen and two riders went for help. Sault Search and Rescue, Ambulance and Fire Department personnel attended the scene to assist in getting him out of the trail and to Sault and Area Hospital.

The injured teenager, eighteen year old Tristan ANDERSON, of Sault Ste Marie was stabilized at Sault and Area Hospital. Sometime last night he was airlifted to London University Hospital where he remains in what has been described as critical but stable condition.

An OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator was called to the scene and this investigation is still on going this morning.

Local Store Victim of Theft

(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP have charged an Elliot Lake man with theft under after receiving a complaint from a local business.

Investigation revealed that the 54-year-old male left the business without paying for merchandise.

Charged with Theft Under is Frank JACKSON (54) of Elliot Lake. JACKSON is scheduled to appear in court on February 7th, 2006.
