WAWA CURLING RINK DAMAGED (WAWA, ON) On February 25, 2013 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wawa Detachment were advised of damage that had been done to the curling rink ice surface at the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre.

(WAWA, ON)  On February 25, 2013 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wawa Detachment were advised of damage that had been done to the curling rink ice surface at the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre.  Sometime over the weekend the culprits used the curling rocks to damage the boards along the ice surface and then caused a 6 inch long hole in the middle of the rink.  Damage costs were estimated to be approximately $500.

OPP were provided with surveillance video taken inside the Community Centre.  From the video a total of 8 suspects were viewed and at this time 4 have been identified.  It is believed that they are from the Timmins area.  Follow-up investigation is currently being done with the assistance of the OPP South Porcupine Crime Unit.

OPP EXECUTE SEARCH WARRANT - Update 2013-02-27

(WAWA, ON) On February 23, 2013 Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Wawa Detachment were advised by a local business of several thefts caught on camera.  Stolen were 3 GPS units, 2 security cameras and 2 electric shavers.  Investigation led the OPP to execute a warrant at a residence on Winston Road in Wawa.  Some of the stolen property was recovered at the residence along with over $1400 worth of narcotics including Ecstasy and Percocet pills were seized.

A second search warrant was executed at a second address on Ontario Street at 3:00 pm.  OPP recovered additional stolen property and a small quantity of narcotics during the search.

As a result 45-year-old Tammy MOORE of Wawa was arrested and charged with the following offences;

1) Theft Under $5,000  8 counts
2) Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
3) Possession for the Purpose Schedule I 2 counts

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Wawa court on April 14, 2013.

BREAK AND ENTER

(CHAPLEAU, ON)  On February 24, 2013 the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Chapleau Detachment were advised of a break in to a residence on Richard Street. The break in occurred sometime overnight and investigation revealed that the home had been entered via a basement window.

Over 250 prescribed Oxytocin were stolen from the home and the estimated street value of this narcotic is $20,000.  Collectible coins were also reported stolen and are valued at $200.
