The Sudbury OPP Detachment would like to advise the public that on Thursday February 04, 2010, there will be intermittent traffic delays on Hwy 17, east of Nairn Centre. An environmental clean-up is required, as a result of a motor vehicle collision which occurred yesterday near this location.

The clean-up will commence at 8:00 a.m and continue throughout the day; at times the highway will be reduced to one lane, traffic will be moving slowly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.


POLICE SEEKING ASSISTANCE FROM THE PUBLIC

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – On December 6, 2009 police were contacted by the owner of a company that was logging on the Boland River Road north of Elliot Lake regarding a possible mischief.

The victim reported that approximately two (2) weeks prior one of the company’s machine broke down. When checked by a mechanic it was noted that the hydraulic fluid had been contaminated. The approximate cost to repair the machine is between $70,000.00 and $150,000.00.

TWO MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISIONS, TWO DRIVER’S CHARGED

Yesterday morning at 9:45 am OPP responded to a two vehicle motor vehicle collision on Highway 17 north, the mile hill area.

A tractor trailer unit was travelling southbound up the mile hill when a vehicle approaching from behind collided with the rear end of the tractor trailer.

The driver was not injured but the vehicle he was driving, a 1998 Dodge pick up truck had to be towed.

56 year old Donald Price of Superior St. in Batchawana Bay was charged with Following Too Close under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

(Garden River First Nation, ON) – OPP responded to a single motor vehicle collision yesterday afternoon at 2:25 pm on Highway 17 east at the railway crossing.

36 year old Joseph Sowers of Webbwood, Ontario was charged with Disobey Railway Crossing Signal – Fail to Stop.

The driver was travelling eastbound making a turn onto the four lanes when he proceeded through a railway signal crossing gate that was in the process of coming down.

The driver was not injured and there was no damage to the tractor trailer unit hauling steel that he was driving.

Huron Central Railway also attended the scene to repair the extensive damage caused to the railway crossing gate.

DRUG ENFORCEMENT TRAFFIC STOP ON HIGHWAY 108

January 31, 2010 the East Algoma OPP in conjunction with the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau, Drug Enforcement Unit Sault Ste Marie conducted a traffic stop on Highway 108. A large quantity of Cocaine was seized with a street value of $14,000.00. Both vehicles stopped were seized as Offence Related Property and investigation is continuing.

Bradley Elwood DAVIDSON (50) of Elliot Lake with the following:

- Possession for the Purpose – Cocaine
- Possession – Marihuana
Contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act


Suzanne Mary JOHNSON (50) of Elliot Lake with the following:

- Possession for the Purpose – Cocaine
- Possession – Marihuana
Contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act


DAVIDSON remains in custody awaiting a Bail Hearing. JOHNSON is scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on April 6, 2010.
