UPDATE - One Female Dies in Collision on Highway 144

(Sudbury) – Officers from the Sudbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police are continuing their investigation into a motor vehicle collision which occurred at 12:40 p.m. yesterday on Highway 144, south of Levack, ON – High Falls, City of Greater Sudbury.

At this time, it appears that the driver of a southbound car, using the passing lane, lost control on a slushy section, crossed the centre line and collided with a northbound pick up truck. The car subsequently struck a second pick up truck resulting in a chain reaction collision involving a total of four vehicles (one car and three pick up trucks).

The driver of the car, Suzanne GUILLEMETTE, age 57, of Sudbury, was pronounced dead at the scene. The four occupants in the other three vehicles involved, were not injured.

A post mortem is scheduled for today, January 17th, 2007.

An OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigator along with a Reconstructionist attended the scene to assist with the investigation.

The highway was closed in both directions, until 7:00 p.m. when officers were able to open it to one lane and let traffic through in both directions. Due to the location of the collision, officers were unable to set up a detour.

Sault Ste Marie, Ont.,

Sault Ste Marie OPP had yet another 24 hours of uneventful but routine types of calls.

Officers responded to calls of two vehicles in the ditch, property/martial disputes and lost property occurrences. None of the calls for service appear to have any quirks that would be of interest to the media.
