One Person Charged After Apartment Fire


(Elliot Lake, Ont.) The East Algoma OPP and the Ontario Fire Marshall have concluded their investigation regarding an apartment fire.

On December 31st, 2005 at approximately 11:40 p.m. police were called to attend an apartment building on Axmith Ave in Elliot Lake regarding a fire. Investigation revealed that the fire had been contained to one apartment. The apartment was totally destroyed and no one was injured.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

Charged with Break and Enter, Theft Under and Arson is Anna Marie WAWIA (28) of Elliot Lake.

WAWIA is scheduled to attend court on March 7th, 2006.

Tractor Trailer and A Pick-up Collide Leaving One Person Deceased

Highway 17 East of Bonfield Closed – Local Traffic Re-Routed

(North Bay, ON) – The North Bay OPP is currently on the scene of a two vehicle fatality on Highway 17 east of Highway 531 and west of Pine Lake Road, Bonfield Township.
Shortly after 6:30 a.m. today (Wednesday January 4th, 2006) police were dispatched to a collision involving pick-up truck and a tractor trailer. It is confirmed that the driver of the pick-up is deceased.
The Highway is closed and police will allow smaller vehicle traffic to be re-routed via Highway 531 and Development Road through to Rutherglen. The detour is closed to tractor trailer traffic.
A Technical Traffic Collision Investigator from the North East Region OPP Traffic and Marine Unit and the Bonfield Township Volunteer Fire Department are on scene to assist.
