THEFT OF CANOE (Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Police are currently investigating the theft of a canoe from Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake. On July 18 th , 2012 at 12:04 a.m.

THEFT OF CANOE           

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – Police are currently investigating the theft of a canoe from Mississauga Avenue in Elliot Lake.

On July 18th, 2012 at 12:04 a.m. the victim reported hearing noise outside the apartment and noted someone lurking around his canoe.  The owner immediately attended the area and upon his arrival noticed the canoe and unknown person(s) were gone.

The stolen canoe is described as follows:

  • Ten foot aluminium with a birch bark design
  • A value of approximately $500.00

Anyone with information regarding the above theft is asked to call  the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Any information that leads to the arrests or identity of persons responsible can lead to a cash reward. You can remain anonymous and crime stoppers do not subscribe to call display.

ROBBERY WITH THEFT AND MORE  

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The East Algoma OPP has charged to local males with several charges after receiving a complaint of intoxicated males.

On July 15th, 2012 police attended the area of Spruce Avenue to speak with the victims who stated that two unknown males had approached them and allegedly stole items from them.

Police investigated and located the suspects.

Charged with the following is Michael Morris TASSE (19) of Elliot Lake.

  •             Robbery with Theft
  •             Mischief Under $5,000
  •             Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

Also charged with the following is Jacob William Robert SMYTHE (20) of Elliot Lake.

  •             Mischief Under $5,000
  •             Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  •             Robbery with theft

Both accused persons are scheduled to appear in Elliot Lake court on October 2, 2012.

SEEKING OWNER OF CANOE

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – On July 18th, 2012 police received information that a red canoe was on the grass area beside Porridge Lake off Brunet Road in Elliot Lake.  The reporter stated that the canoe has been in that area for approximately 5 days with no one attending the area to retrieve the canoe. 

The canoe is described as having a red outer shell with black foam around both sides with a white inner shell.  A blue and yellow life preserver was located in the canoe.

Police are requesting the assistance in looking the owner.

SEARCH CONCLUDED NORTH OF ELLIOT LAKE 

(Elliot Lake, Ontario) – The OPP Underwater Search & Recovery Unit and the East Algoma OPP have concluded their search and have released the scene at Semiwite Lake north of Elliot Lake.

Police are currently investigating a drowning incident in the 1970’s which may be related to the body recovered.  The identity of the victim has not been confirmed. The investigation is continuing with the Coroners office and forensic identification will be conducted on the remains found.

Foul play is not suspected at this time.
