(Blind River, Ontario) – The East Algoma OPP is currently investigating a motor vehicle collision between two tractor trailers approximately 2 kilometres east of Algoma Mills. Police received the call on June 14, 2011 at approximately 10:30 p.m. This collision involved vehicle fires which lead to some delay in the investigation and the re-opening of the highway.

The highway was been closed with a passenger vehicle detour at highway 538. The highway remains closed, one lane is expected to be open in approximately one hour pending the removal of vehicles and the Ministry of Transportations assessment of the pavement for regular and commercial vehicle traffic.

One fatality has been confirmed but no information will be released pending confirmation of the victims’ identification and next of kin notification.
